About Doctor Santos
Heartache or romantic complications? Lack of rhythm? Dr. Santos prescribes a fortified tonic of sultry guitars, candid lyrics in both Portuguese and English, and a silky deep baritone to treat whatever ails you! The new Brazilian Psych Pop project from guitarist Luís Santos is self-described as “Music for Sensitive Souls” – for fans of classic Brazilian Popular Music, Tropicália and old school Funk & Soul.
Currently living in Brighton (UK), Luís comes from the southern Brazilian city of Curitiba. His earliest memories are of cassette tapes of Jorge Ben and Gilberto Gil scattered around the floor as his dad played MPB songs on a nylon string guitar. He grew up immersed in a technicolour world, constantly in awe of the rich musical history of Brazil.
He moved to Europe to study at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), where he met the fellow members of his Psych-Pop band All We Are. They released 3 albums on Domino/Double Six Records, achieving worldwide radio playlisting and touring, shows at Glastonbury’s Park Stage, tours with Jungle, London Grammar, Kae Tempest, and music featured on TV shows The Walking Dead and Lucifer.
Post-band, feelings of homesickness and misplacement came to trouble Luís. He decided to have his Chi aligned by a mysterious machine found in a charity shop, this process sparking a flame within. Gravitating back to his Brazilian classical guitar, a voice he had never heard came to life, velvety nylon string chords invoking a connection to a musical heritage once neglected. Dr. Santos is an alter-ego, a vehicle to explore deep transforming love, intimacy, self-reflection and identity, and poses a question: in which ways do choices from the past make you who you are?
Picture yourself on a serene Brazilian beach at sunset, as the mystic swell of the ocean bathes you in hot, clammy romance and healing good vibes…
Doctor Santos is here to make you feel better.
2026 will see the release of his debut single “Berimbau (an Invocation)”, as well as follow-up singles and live performances throughout the UK.
